Life as a post-rock song

Post-rock, what's that? According to our encyclopaedia Wikipedia, it's
a musical genre characterized by the use of instruments commonly associated with rock music, but using rhythms, harmonies, melodies, timbres, and chord progressions not traditionally found in rock. The term "post-rock" is believed to have been coined by critic Simon Reynolds in his review of Bark Psychosis' album Hex, published in the March 1994 issue of Mojo magazine. Reynolds expanded upon the idea later in the May 1994 issue of The Wire. He used the term to describe music "using rock instrumentation for non-rock purposes, using guitars as facilitators of timbre and textures rather than riffs and power chords".

In a more general way, it's a music type mainly without lyrics, but based on lyric flights, which are the perfect soundtrack for our dreams. Sounds taking you weightless, next to the stars, or even the 7th sky. Well, that's the way I feel it!

65daysofstatic - Radio Protector

On a more concrete point of view, here we go for the demonstration through A+B that post-rock is a music from the future (yes, that's why it's named like that). Let's begin with A+B = 65, 65daysofstatic or the second band to make me discover this so particular music style, via Radio Protector, a tune composed of piano, guitar and drums, simple things but so well put together that 5:26 are enough to expose beauty as sound stairs truly deserving the name of music.

Explosions in the Sky - Your Hand In Mine

My first step into this starry kind of music was through the magicness of Explosions in the Sky, who needed 8 minutes to completely change my vision of life. Yet, that's not so original, one bass riff, two guitar riffs, one militar march on the drums. But the genius of these 3 texans, added to the dexterity of an Illinoisan, made the difference when came the time to create a master piece.
Your Hand In Mine, that's life. A birth in an unknown world, first steps into the innocence of youth. Then, very fastly, the age of reason, first agitations and teenage crisis. A wisdom newly acquired when turning eighteen, youth's crazyness hard to contain with a tiny part of your mind focused on the exams.
When this moment's over, the life as it should be finally takes off, in a first time through the ardour of the 3rd decade, then calmed down when a long relationship and promess of family happen. At 6:00, slowing down as if it were the time to ask some questions, settled down or not, create or not. And in the best case, a new heartbeat, a life's cycle beginning, take his child to a higher state of human being, one life's goal, always ending when the time has come, when everything (or nearly) as been achieved. Then you only have to give up, to turn off the light thinking all the good things come to an end, but hey, you have not wasted your time.

The B-Mixtape by Cadillac

2. Miami Horror - Bellevue
3. Louis La Roche - Be Brave
4. Moulinex - Break Chops
5. Toomy Disco - Back To Cosmos (Cadillac Remix)
6. Barretso - Bright City Lights
7. Mika - Blame It On The Girls (Not on the Starsmith Remix)
8. The Swiss - Bubble Bath
9. Super Mal - Bigger Than Big (Bag Raiders Remix)
10. Goose - Black Gloves (The Bloody Beetroots Remix)
11. Donna Summer - Bad Girls (SonicC Bootleg Remix)
12. The Who - Baba O'Riley (SebastiAn Remix)

You may have not noticed, but with the write-up about Cadillac, Random Trax reached its 100th article. No party or Champagne, that's not a big step while some blogs are about to write their 1000th. But these sweet Australians have not missed the 'birthday' and are offering a nice present to you, faithful readers : the B-Mixtape, waited for so long and now here in the mean time the first days of Spring are appearing, bringing the Sun from the South to warm our hearts and bodies freezed by a long and hard Winter.

A short reminder of what Alphabet Mixtapes are : I choose around ten tracks I like among my music library, all beginning with the same letter and in random styles, then I submit it to an artist for him to mix it. (Remember the A-Mixtape mixed by Flashworx)
Don't hesitate to download it, burn it and listen to it while driving from home to work!

Here, Cadillac have taken a bit of width, choosing their own way through disco and french house, using their musical direction, but we cannot blame them for it, the mix being so tasteful for our ears.

Starting the race as the waves come, the first turn immediately brings an Australian slap in your face from Miami Horror's sensation, before hitting the last Cadillac remix. At halfway, Starsmith's synth helps Mika to shake racing pit girls' booties. The Swiss lead the race and are already thinking of the Bubble Bath they'll take in case of win, but they hit the wall. While the Bag Raiders and the Bloody Beetroots are fighting for the first place throwing each other big beats on the wheels, Bad Girls are pouring nails down the track field, allowing Baba O'Riley to conclude a beautiful race with an epic win...

Cadillac, Cadillac, I'm a coupé de ville built for thrill

It's been a long time since I have to deal with this. The brand new Australian concept car, named Cadillac, is appearing on the car market. Brand new but actually a secret project from the 80's, and they've just found the hidden plans. Coming from the most exotic Australian borough, and the most European regarding its weather, Melbourne the marvellous, Pomponio (as you may know as Dimes) and Wilkins put on their overalls a couple of months ago, in order to create the project of their dreams, a mix between Disco and French House.
Too many influences to be all quoted, but we can deal with some : set up on a Hendrix frame, with 4 Beatles tires and a Pink Floyd body, this Cadillac has an exhaust system new age from the Justice brand, Aeroplane's hubcaps and Daft Punky side skirts. The Doors are not still young, but the Cut Copy handles encrusted with Crystal Castles give a fresh style. The Minitel Rose integrated to the panel allow you to call Le Knight Club during a congestion, with the eyes riveted on the rear-view mirror Cerrone.
So the two young DJs are starting with an excellent knowledge of the basics, but I won't tell you more, because I don't want to reveal you the very core of who they are, a powerful car with thousands of frisky horses under the bonnet and their whole life to leave their mark into the sand roads of Australia, before riding on our European asphalt soon.
Hey girls, aren't you dreaming of fast and furious rides, your hair in the wind, into this sumptuous Cadillac?

I have to admit February was not a good month for the blog. I have been torn between work, aperitifs and Olympic Games. So here is my come-back.
And dealing with come-backs, here is the one of the best Foals in the world. After their fantastico-mathematic ride in 2007/2008, they went back to their Oxford stable in order to compose a second album hidden from indiscreet jockeys. Not tired of science, these 5 brillant ponies has changed their math cap for a medecine one. Here's the deal : Yannis and his friends have set up their instrument in a surgical way to dissect each note with more hability than before. Their first album Antidotes made us addicted and created a fever we were not used to know. Spanish Sahara, the first extract of Total Life Forever set to be released on May the 10th, is coming to us like a horse pill. Like a fresh wave too, a radical change in the band habits, who used to ride jumping and freaky horses. Spanish Sahara, what's that? A dreamy anthem, beginning with a canter to finish on a sweet gallop, an epic rise which turns SebastiAn's Threnody first 11 minutes into a big, big joke. I know, this is actually a joke.
