Life as a post-rock song

Post-rock, what's that? According to our encyclopaedia Wikipedia, it's
a musical genre characterized by the use of instruments commonly associated with rock music, but using rhythms, harmonies, melodies, timbres, and chord progressions not traditionally found in rock. The term "post-rock" is believed to have been coined by critic Simon Reynolds in his review of Bark Psychosis' album Hex, published in the March 1994 issue of Mojo magazine. Reynolds expanded upon the idea later in the May 1994 issue of The Wire. He used the term to describe music "using rock instrumentation for non-rock purposes, using guitars as facilitators of timbre and textures rather than riffs and power chords".

In a more general way, it's a music type mainly without lyrics, but based on lyric flights, which are the perfect soundtrack for our dreams. Sounds taking you weightless, next to the stars, or even the 7th sky. Well, that's the way I feel it!

65daysofstatic - Radio Protector

On a more concrete point of view, here we go for the demonstration through A+B that post-rock is a music from the future (yes, that's why it's named like that). Let's begin with A+B = 65, 65daysofstatic or the second band to make me discover this so particular music style, via Radio Protector, a tune composed of piano, guitar and drums, simple things but so well put together that 5:26 are enough to expose beauty as sound stairs truly deserving the name of music.

Explosions in the Sky - Your Hand In Mine

My first step into this starry kind of music was through the magicness of Explosions in the Sky, who needed 8 minutes to completely change my vision of life. Yet, that's not so original, one bass riff, two guitar riffs, one militar march on the drums. But the genius of these 3 texans, added to the dexterity of an Illinoisan, made the difference when came the time to create a master piece.
Your Hand In Mine, that's life. A birth in an unknown world, first steps into the innocence of youth. Then, very fastly, the age of reason, first agitations and teenage crisis. A wisdom newly acquired when turning eighteen, youth's crazyness hard to contain with a tiny part of your mind focused on the exams.
When this moment's over, the life as it should be finally takes off, in a first time through the ardour of the 3rd decade, then calmed down when a long relationship and promess of family happen. At 6:00, slowing down as if it were the time to ask some questions, settled down or not, create or not. And in the best case, a new heartbeat, a life's cycle beginning, take his child to a higher state of human being, one life's goal, always ending when the time has come, when everything (or nearly) as been achieved. Then you only have to give up, to turn off the light thinking all the good things come to an end, but hey, you have not wasted your time.
