Random Videos #2

When I come across a pretty and sounding good video, I note it in a corner of a draft to spread it with you a little bit later, when I have a few minutes to write. So here is what I've been picking this last month, since December the 21th and this last video clip of Miike Snow. 10 videos which have kept my attention focused more than 30 seconds and actually deserve to be watched at least once on this early 2010 (with a lot of subjectivity).

1) Miike Snow - Silvia
2) Où Est Le Swimming Pool - Dance The Way I Feel
3) Ellie Goulding - Under The Sheets
4) Ellie Goulding - Starry Eyed
5) Danton Eeprom - Give Me Pain
6) Alex Metric - It Starts
7) My Awesome Mixtape - Hearts to Lend
8) Stevans - Vodka Redgirls
9) Take Me Home - Never Gonna Stop
10) Marina & The Diamonds - Hollywood (Acoustic Version)

The Electronic Part :

There's no need to present Miike Snow, with a debut album among the best of 2009, this Swedish trio is coming back with their second single, which video is dealing with a post-apocalyptic world where homeless men are walking which only goal seems to burn the Jackalope a.k.a. Horny Bunny.

Où Est Le Swimming Pool, although named half-French half-English, is an English trio. With their voices between Passion Pit and MGMT ones, and surely the good way to make catchy tunes, these young men have not finished to make us dance the way they feel.

As I like to say, Ellie Goulding is at music what Jesus Christ was at people 2,010 years ago : The Messiah. Indeed, Elena Jane Goulding has just turned 23 and be sure before 10 years she will be known for her well singing and of course well sounding. Wait, "well" is an awful euphemism I would qualify as un-repairable. Ellie, if you hear me, please accept my excuses and a few superlatives to buy my soul back : you're the prettiest, the smartest, the most natural and the one I prefer among all these young electro-pop flowers coming into bloom across the Channel!

It would not be complete without this second tune as a proof to what I said. And what a tune! A strong piece of music, based on after-images and spectacular acrobatics, shaken arms, wonderful voice over a nice bassline, for one result : a bunch of stars in our eyes. Not convinced yet? Are 60,000 views on Youtube in 2 days enough to convince you? Ellie, I can't wait to meet you!

If this Give Me Pain track from the French Danton Eeprom is a bit long to start, it's just to end better, in a not so punchy tango, in a empty theater, only filled with Danton as a spectator, an accordeonist and the couple of dancers. Simplicity, that's why describe the best the minimalist, soft but sincere music of Danton the danady.

The Rocky Part :

It's now time for the rocky part of these random videos to start, and how could we start better than by listening to It Starts from Alex Metric? This English dude well known for his numerous and always great remixes (for the great Lisztomania for example) but also for his powerful track Head Straight, seems to be bored by what television is bringing to us everyday... Yeah, it's mainly shit, so please turn off this addictive screen! Anyway, Alex is about to release his first album, which may be a rocky anthem to electronic music...

I recently discovered these 5 young Italians, My Awesome Mixtape, a little orchestra with a very good video clip. I appreciate this moment, at 1:55, when the violin starts to play, very nice part. Signore, ragazze, you now know there are among them some Hearts To Lend.

Soyez-y!

So here is the video of the tune which has been obsessing me for the last two weeks (at least), indeed I'm hearing it once a day on Couleur 3 (great Swiss radio) : Vodka Redgirls, the brand new and fresh single from Stevans. But who are Stevans? Well, a Geneva-based trio, involved in rock music. These three frends have recorded their second album, named Fake, which has been released on January the 22nd. Vodka Redgirls, a soft song, although the leader Yvan Franel seems not to think it in the clip. And, whatever the guitarist Bruno Tancredi and the drummer John Chirico may think, playing tennis table with lightning balls in the dark is über-cool! For those who will be in Geneva on February the 5th, don't miss them at KAB (L'Usine)!

While we are in Switzerland, let's have a listen to the Take Me Home, Geneva-based trio who decided to left money and watches to focus on music, which they are expressing with passion into Never Gonna Stop, black and white video clip with a few colours around 2:00, full of Hey's and cool guitar riffs.

Do you know Nana Mouskouri? Greek singer born in 1934, and actually one of the 10 artists/bands in the world who have sold more than 300 millions of CDs, alongside with MJ, The Beatles...
Now focus on Marina Diamandis aka Marina & The Diamonds, Welsh singer born 50 years after Nana. So where is the link? Look, they have both a Greek father, an awesome voice and an awesome career, already finished for the oldest, just beginning for the youngest...
Let me add Marina is my second best English singer after Ellie Goulding, right before Florence + The Machine a.k.a. Florence... Welsh, who comes third in my personal ranking. You see, everything is linked. Anyway, I let you now appreciate this acoustic version of Hollywood, excellent single excracted from Marina's forthcoming debut album The Family Jewels !
