Massive trip through non-electronic music

This blog isn't very fair with non-electronic music. So I decided to write an article 100% not dedicated to boom boom pif paf klang and other synthetics sounds usually promoted here.

The Temper Trap - Sweet Disposition

The trip begins where dingos are living with The Temper Trap who has been on top of hype for a couple of weeks. Yet Sweet Disposition wasn't born two weeks ago but something like one year ago ; it's been 6 months before it emerges, and another 6 months to reach the top, while Conditions, the debut album of this Australian quartet, was about to be released. On the point to finish their American tour, Dougy the Indonesian leader, Toby the drummer, Jonny the bassist and Lorenzo the guitarist are coming in Europe for a big month of gigs from Barcelona to London stopping by Paris, where they're gonna perform live November the 18th.

Conditions is available on Amazon (FR & UK) and Itunes (FR, UK & AU).

Fanfarlo - The Walls Are Coming Down

I must entrust to you that the wonderful density of artists in a square meter in the world give me pain when it's time to know each of us, but I make my best and if you're OK to follow me, we take a one-way ticket Melbourne-Londres to discover Fanfarlo, which debut album Reservoir has just been released in France. The Swedish Simon Balthazar created the band in 2006 not with Gaspard and Melchior but with Amos, Leon, Justin and Cathy, the violonist, mandolinist, clavierist but especially the female voice necessary to the accuracy of the choruses. The Walls Are Coming Down reminds me of Zach Condon's universe a.k.a. fabulous Beirut's singer (especially in Nantes) mixed with one ounce of Arcade Fire. Into the video clip, Simon and his musicians are singing right in front of a man trying to escape from a strait jacket. Moving.

Reservoir is available here or at Itunes, Fnac, Amazon...

Vous me suivez toujours?

The Freelance Whales - Generator (Second Floor)

Are you still following me? The plane's now taking us to Kennedy International in business class. After some administrative boring details, we call a taxi and join Queens to meet one girl and four boys again, Judah, Kevin, Jake, Chuck and Doris from The Freelance Whales, an experimental pop band formed less than one year earlier on the Hudson's side. Twelve months it's short but sufficient to record a debut album which is far away from beeing ridiculous. Weathervanes, and Generator (Second Floor) which is the best illustration, is a melting pot of drums, bass, guitar, harmonium, banjo, glockenspiel others weird machines creating a weird noise. It sounds like a counting rhyme and it has the same qualities as a dream hearth-side.

Weathervanes is physically available in the USA at CDBaby and everywhere in the world on Itunes.

Of Montreal - Gallery Piece

We take an internal flight to the South, the Sun and Georgia, in Athens more precisely. Europeans super strong in geography would lapidate me and tell me there isn't more Athènes in Georgia than Tbilissi in Greece. But we haven't leave the United States yet, we're gonna benefit from our so hardly obtained visa a little longer! So we drive to of Montreal's stronghold. Montréal in the USA, could my exile make me mad? No, I still have all my mind, it's Kevin Barnes who named is band in order not to forget a love lost in the Big Maple. Four boys and one girl again (it's definitely an excellent tactic) who are celebrating the one year birthday of their ninth album release, which Gallery Piece is extracted from. As a gift, well... you can hear it, love it and buy it, waiting for their tenth album False Priest to be released in 2010, I'm sure they'll appreciate.

Skeletal Lamping is available here or on Itunes.

Land of Talk - May You Never

I felt you wanted to join me here in Montréal. So no hesitation we cross America from South to North and land in the best music place of Canada. Land of Talk is a trio formed under Elizabeth Powell's impulsion. After their initial tour for their debut album Some Are Lakes, the band splited and Powell hired the bassist Joe Yarmush and the drumer Andrew Barr. A new EP was released last week, May You Never is the first extract. The Fun and Laughter EP is a prelude to a 2 month North-American tour.

Some Are Lakes & the Fun and Laughter EP are available on the online shop of the band or on this of their music label One Little Indian and also on Itunes.

Mumford & Sons - Little Lion Man

It's time to leave Elizabeth's aerial voice to come back to London. I'm now gonna deal with the master piece of this article, the genious, fantastics, excellents Mumford & Sons. Revelation of the year in the English capital, song of the year with Little Lion Man, album of the year with Sigh No More, whatever is possible, I miss superlatives, I want more and more and more. The official video clip is sober but effective, it's easy to lose your mind into the meanders of Marcus Mumford's voice and we'd like not to be disturbed while listening to it. Pulse Films made a trailer for Mumford and his 'Sons' Winston Marshall, Ben Lovett and Ted Dwane, named Gentlemen of the Road. A 2 minutes and 25 seconds long video which furiously gives desire to know what's coming next. But what does it previews? Published 2 days after the release of their debut album, I can propose two possibilities : the tour to come or a kind of road-trip movie following the band. Both are very attractives and I can't wait to know what's up.

Sigh No More is available on Amazon, Recordstore and Itunes.

We were in 1976, Ian Curtis, Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook and Stephen Morris didn't know yet they're gonna have this worldwide success with tunes like Transmission or Love Will Tear Us Apart. 4 years later, Ian Curtis's suicide shook a whole country and a whole band, saying they lost even their life, changing their name to New Order to forget the tragedy. Next the single Blue Monday entered history as the most sold in UK's music history. After a 30 years career and the departure of Hook in 2006, Bernard Sumner waited until the summer 2009 to announce the creation of Bad Lieutenant with Phil Cunningham and Jake Evans. Sink or Swim is the first single, released one week before their first album Never Cry Another Tear made with the bassist of Blur, Alex James. It's very pleasant to listen, isn't it?

Never Cry Another Tear is available on Fnac, Amazon and Itunes.
